Commercial Electrician

Electricity has become quite a necessity in the western world.  Because electricity is used in every home and business, qualified electricians are needed.  A commercial electrician is a handy profession to have in this day and age. There are many services that can be offered by a commercial electrical service.  Just a few of these include building management systems, fire alarm systems, HVAC wiring, retail complexes, warehouses and computer rooms.  If you are interested in the field, it may be helpful to know a few things. 

It is important to note that danger is associated with the electrical trade.  There is always close contact and interaction with electricity.  That is why it is important to adhere to the codes established by the National Electrical Code.  Also, there are many conditions that an electrician has to work under.  It may be outdoors in stormy weather.  It may be indoors in close surroundings.  An electrician must be adaptable and prepared for any situation. 

If you wish to be a commercial electrician, education is needed.  Most technical schools can provide an Associate’s Degree, but many electricians are educated through an apprenticeship with a qualified electrician.  It may be helpful to know that there are mainly two types of electrician.   A master electrician has at least two years of experience.  He or she has also passed a standardized test.  Master electricians are certified to plan, design, install and maintain electrical systems.  The second type of electrician is a journeyman electrician.  The only difference between the two is that the journeyman electrician cannot do the design work, but he or she can install and maintain electrical systems.  It should be noted that most apprenticeships are a minimum of four years. 

It is usually necessary for an electrician to be state licensed electrician and certified.  This increases your marketability.  It is also important to be aware of and learn updated methods.  This can usually be learned by various classes offered in many technical schools.  You must also have a basic knowledge of math as it is used to set up electrical systems.
